Introduction

Jini.org used to host Jini-related projects a la Java.net. Many projects hosted on the site very reasonably used their assigned subdomain to inform their package nomenclature. So, for instance, rio.jini.org used org.jini.rio as its package name root.

When Jini.org's community projects moved to http://jini.dev.java.net the question was raised as to whether it was still appropriate for said projects to continue to use the org.jini.* naming structure, particularly as java.net discourages the use of net.java.* as a package structure due to trademark infringement concerns.

Concerning org.jini.*, then, it has been decided that Jini-based projects may continue to use this package designation but since the subdomain reservation system is no longer available to prevent collisions it is requested that projects using this designation register on this page. It is also considered good form for owners of Jini-based projects using this structure to maintain a subscription to the Jini-users mailing list.

Note: Some projects have used org.jini.projects.* as their package root. The "projects" element is optional and should not be considered necessary.
